Workout Songs That Motivate You in the Gym

Sunday, January 10th, 2010

If there is one thing that most of us to go to the gym regularly have in common, it’s the fact that we like listening to music regularly.  There is such a wide variety of workout songs that are available, it can be difficult to pin down the exact ones that you are going to use whenever you are sweating it out at the gym.  Even so, there are some guidelines that many people follow that has to do more with their personal likes and dislikes them with anything else.  Here are some suggestions for workout songs, not necessarily about specific songs but the types of music that you may listen to.

First of all, you need to make sure that you have a way of listening to these workout songs whenever you’re at the gym.  More often than not, they are going to have a radio that is playing in the background that is typically tuned to either a classic rock station or perhaps more of a new rock station, either of which will provide plenty of driving music in order to keep you going.  There may be times, however, when you like to control things yourself in order to motivate and push yourself to the next level.

For that, you’re going to need some kind of listening device, either an iPod or perhaps another type of MP3 player.  Most people that use one of these players at the gym and do not necessarily want to spend a lot of money on it as it can take a beating from time to time.  At any rate, you can find a decent MP3 player that you can pack full of thousands of workout songs for a reasonable price.  As long as you use decent headphones then the sound quality will be good as well.

Something else that you might want to consider is separating the workout songs into styles.  There may be times when ever you want to listen to some kind of driving music, such as a hard rock sound, like AC/DC or Aerosmith.  There may be other times, however, when something along the lines of hip-hop may be better, but this requires that you like hip-hop in the first place.  Additionally, you might listen to a different type of workout songs whenever you are doing cardiovascular exercise then whenever you are lifting weights.  That is why I tend to have my MP3 player segregated according to different types of workouts.

From time to time, it might be a good idea for you to take off the headset and listen to the sounds of the gym.  Many people enjoy the sounds and sights that they take in at the gym and it can be very motivating if you do so regularly.  Although it always helps for you to have these workout songs with you in case you need a boost, you will be surprised with how just listening to the background music that is available can be motivating in itself.

Shoulder Exercises That Really Work

Friday, January 8th, 2010

Although it certainly is possible for you to build up almost any area of the body, the shoulders seem to be one that many men are interested in working on the most. There are a variety of different shoulder exercises that can be done which can not only build the shoulders but can also shape and define them. There’s no doubt that having a nice set of shoulders is going to help you to look your best, especially if you work on your entire body at the same time. That being said, there are some specific shoulder exercises which can help you more than others.

The most common type of shoulder exercises are those which involve a lifting motion. These can either be done by pressing the weight over the head or by raising it straight in front of the body or off to the side. Some people use a barbell in order to do this but it is often a better idea if you use dumbbells in order to work each shoulder separately. If you use a barbell in order to do a press, you are going to be using your strong arm more than your weak arm. By using dumbbells, you will not only work the weak arm just as much, you will also be working many of the stabilizer muscles which help to strengthen this area of the body.

A good example of a shoulder exercise that is rather popular is the shoulder press. If you’re just starting out exercising in this way, you might want to try using a smith machine or making sure that somebody is nearby in order to help you, should you happen to run out of steam. The shoulders are easily injured, especially whenever you’re first starting your workout so make sure that you take it easy until they are able to build up some strength.

Another common mistake which gets done is that many people will do a shoulder press and bring the weight down behind the neck. They mistakenly think that this type of exercise is going to hit the shoulders from a different angle but in reality, you are risking not only injuring your shoulders but also injuring your neck. Whenever doing shoulder exercises that involve oppressing motion, always make sure that the weight comes down in front of the face or in the case of dumbbells, that if a bar were attached between them, it would come down in front of the face.

There are a variety of other shoulder exercises that can be done, such as the shrug. This simple exercise is done while holding dumbbells in either hand with your arms straight down by your side. Simply shrug your shoulders and this will help you to build those muscles rather easily. This is an excellent exercise to do in between other exercises, as it is more of a complementary shoulder workout when compared to the regular shoulder exercises that are done.

Pushup Routines to Push Your Way up in the Gym

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

If you regularly go to the gym and you enjoy working out your chest while you’re there, you might be surprised with exactly how much you can improve your routine if you do a little bit of working out at home.  By using the right pushup routines and being consistent with your efforts, you can actually make some breakthroughs at the gym that are extremely impressive.  Here are some of the most effective pushup routines that can be done at home, any of which can easily be incorporated into your overall workout.

The easiest of these routines is simply to get on the floor every once in awhile and do a few push-ups.  Many people do this throughout the day and they may set specific times in which they get up and do a few push-ups in order to strengthen themselves.  This is especially true of people that work on the computer or have set specific tasks that they do all day long.  They may work for a half hour and then do 10 push-ups in order to break up the monotony and to space their routine out so that they are not overdoing it.

Another one of the very effective pushup routines is to make sure that you are doing your push-ups every day when you roll out of bed in the morning.  Many of us have a difficult time sticking with any type of exercise on a regular basis unless it is very rigidly timed and incorporated into a specific time of the day.  First thing in the morning is perfect, as you can easily hit the floor and get the blood moving by doing some push-ups whenever you first are awake.

Another thing that you can do to make your pushup routines even more effective is to get some push-up handles for use in the home.  These can do a number of different things that will benefit you.  First of all, they give you a better grip and are much easier on the wrist and then the common way of holding your hands flat against the floor.  Secondly, they give you a deeper press and some of these grips may be adjustable in order to have you starting even higher off of the floor.  It’s an excellent way to get more out of your pushup routines and it is a difference that will be noticed in the gym.

Of course, even if you are doing pushup routines at home, you should still make sure that you give your body plenty of time to rest between exercise sessions at the gym.  The exercise that you do is not whenever your muscles grow, it is when they have the opportunity to rest and recuperate.  Provided you give your muscles the opportunity to rest in this way, they will be ready for your next trip to the gym and you will be able to come back, stronger and better than the last time you were there.
